Developing Services

The Hope And A Future Trust is committed to empowering communities to resolve their own problems and to do so in sustainable ways. We approach this based in local centres around Guyana by a number of routes:

Education: We develop adult education programs to help adults who have missed schooling. We run programs for young people who are not attending school and classes for children who need extra coaching for national exams. In Guyana you cannot attend school without a uniform so we also provide school shirts so that the poorest children can still attend school

Training: We run courses in a range of practical skills which enable local people to make a living and support their families, courses such as sewing and tailoring, food hygiene and catering, computer skills and carpentry.

Enterprise: We are helping several groups to set up enterprise schemes to contribute to the sustainability of the local centres as well as providing training and employment opportunities for local people. Schemes we are working toward include tailoring, carpentry, block making and an internet café.
